Overview – How we brought 140 Oakmoor Dr. current with nearly three months of hard work. We completely redesigned the kitchen by adding affordable and elegant IKEA cabinets and island. A modern breakfast bar to separate the family room from the kitchen. We improved all lighting by adding 9 Cync Smart Wafer Lights to bring ambient lighting and more brightness to multiple dark rooms due to poor electrical architecture. One lightswitch would turn on on 2 sets of lights and another lightswitch would turn on 3 sets of lights. By adding the smart lights we are able to add dynamic lighting options using just one switch and controlling all 5 lights. The lights can be added to any smart phone or smart switch. More importantly you can program individual and group lighting, or colored lighting options.
Kitchen Layout – Moved refrigerator to the other side of kitchen. Gave the refrigerator a dedicated outlet preventing power surges from turning fridge off unextextantly. Partially removed hallway wall to open kitchen up more and utilize space more appropriately.
Study/Library – Used IKEA’s Billy Bookcase to build 5 book cases of different sizes into the wall and framed them with crown moulding. For lighting we used 3 x 4″ gimbal directional lights to brighten the bookcase. The flooring was from Menards: Great Lakes Flooring. We wouldn’t recommend the wood for novices. The wood was far from straight and none of our installers considered it good quality. The owner had 3 different types of wood from this provider and all of them were considered poor in our opinion.
When painting the bookshelves we highly recommend spray painting the cabinets first before installing. The finish is exponentially better and takes far less time. Make sure to lightly sand between coats.
